You can help our new site in many different ways. If you are a friend, relative, or even know a family member in some way, the very first thing you will want to do is sign up for an account and post something to let us know you are here. Remember - Only registered users can can see the private data of living family members in the family tree, post to the discussion forums, upload photos/files, or post an article on the main part of the site. I welcome everyone to do all of these things as often as you are willing. This is the way the web site grows. Don't worry if you make a mistake, or need help, we are here for you. I would rather see 100 messed up articles or pictures, than none at all. Navigate around the site, try out the tools, and have fun!! The worse thing you can do is not sign up and start adding your stuff.
The other thing you can do that will really help defray to costs of hosting & maintaining this site is to shop at our affiliate sites. Heck, if we do it right, we could make enough to plan family reunions or something like that maybe?? Anyway, if you do any shopping online at all (especially at Amazon.com), we would ask that you stop here first and use the links we have set up to start your shopping session. Roxy, Mom and Tara have actually already earned me a couple of dollars doing this already. These links will always be over on the right side of the main page. If you use them a lot, we will earn referral money and those funds will be used to fund this site and other cool family projects. If you shop at a site frequently, and you don't see a link for it here, please let me know so I can join their program. The Family Land Team currently consists of volunteer administrators and managers who will be taking Family Land to new heights in a relatively short time frame. This well-oiled machine is often copied but never surpassed. Family Land has some wonderfully talented people taking Open Source concepts and applying them here to bring our family closer. This new site design is a major leap forward and represents the most exciting Family Site ever! The project has a nice balance of help from well-known family such as Karen Craven, (who provided much of the starting family tree data), to some newcomers like Roxy Fisher, Troy Craven, and Marcia Gengler. This dynamic group has been further strengthening the project by learning about the new system and applying this knowledge to create new content for us all to enjoy. In web site development people joke about the 'bus' factor. Projects that don't have 'help' are considered less sound should their single lead person "get hit by a bus". While I don't worry about this personally, I sure hope everyone feels welcome to contribute and learn more about managing the site. I certainly won't be around forever, and since I wasn't smart enough to have any children, this will have to do as my legacy:) I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have so far. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, and have fun!!! |
